|

Hey,
I'm British, Trinity TESOL qualified and have a masters degree. My wife's French with a Bachelors. We both work as English teachers in China, but want to come to Vietnam.
Now, my wife, born and raised in France, is of Cambodian origin. This can, and has been a problem getting work in China. Would this be the same in Vietnam?
The way we've done it in the past in China, has been to...how to put it...offer ourselves as a package deal. Turn up at schools together, and say we both want to work. Would that work in Vietnam?
If anyone can point us in the right direction in terms of schools/ places to look for them, I'd really appreciate it.
p.s. We're both young, in our 20s, and looking to move in the new year. First, we'll go to Nha Trang diving...is there any work around there (we've never been)
Thanks a lot |

Being a non-native speaker is no problem in Vietnam, but being of Cambodian origin is not exactly helpful. Vietnam is just as racist as other countries in this part of the world. That said, there's probably no place where it's easier to find a job than Vietnam. Turning up at schools together might be a good strategy. It may take a little while, but I'm sure you'll find what you want.
There are schools in Nha Trang, but I have no idea how easy or difficult it is to get a job there. |

Bart.
Thanks very much for the help and advice. We pretty much guessed that'd be the case.
Do you or anyone else have any stories for further encouragement? Do you know people who have done it or know it's possible. Better still, know any schools to suggest?
Our current options are Vietnam or Russia, so before deciding betwen two extremes, we want to have a good idea.
Thanks all. |

Hey,
I'm sure there are loads of schools that would hire your wife as long as her accent is neutral. The following schools have in the past hired people from non-English speaking countries. VATC, EL, Saigon Tech and Asia Pacific College. Personally, I wouldn't offer yourselves as a package, instead you shoud seek employment at better quality schools with your credentials you would be able to earn decent cash especially being in your 20's.
There are schools in Nha Trang. How easy it is to find work I am not entirely sure. |
