Would someone dare to divulge some information on how to get a job teaching English in Spanish universities?

Maybe it's just me, but I taught in Madrid for 5 years and never met an expat university teacher. Does anybody on this forum teach at universities or know any expat that does?

Difficult.

You need a PhD and to be in the 'right place'.

I am a TEFL teacher with an MBA and various other degrees/dips which allow me to do ESP, Medical, Bus Eng and other stuff. I have 20 years experience. In the Far East, I now work at the country's No 1 uni.

A few years ago I was in Spain, but the unis didn't even reply to my CV.

A uni job is a plum job in Spain. Long breaks and big pensions. There are plenty of Spaniards who study 'filologia inglesa' and then do post-grad stuff. Many good uni jobs are kept for these bright bilingual Spanish people.

I am not a linguistics teacher, and I don't even have an MA TESOL.

I did some part-time work at 2 private unis (as well as an "academy") and managed to get by for a while like that. P'raps the private unis are the best option UNLESS you have all the bells and whistles.

For anyone who fits the above description, the Boletines Oficiales from each Provincia (I think, if not from the CC AA) publish University positions. I think there are some post further down the board about oposiciones - usual conditions apply...

Thank you all for replying to my notice and especially Phil for the added info. I know of Anglos who do have university positions here in Spain including Madrid (not tenured) who do not have PhD's and some don't even have a MA in English or TEFL. These people have gotten their positions through a certain language academy which I will not name. This academy has some how linked with the universities to be able to do so. But their 'training' is rigid and extremely limited in methodology. This is just to say that there are obviously positions to be had but people seem to be very secretive about this knowledge. In some other European countries English teaching jobs are easily advertised. I just haven't found this here in Spain but I will look into your suggestion Phil.
