Of course I'm poor - I'm in TEFL!

But I'd like to do the Diploma (either DELTA or Trinity) and was thinking it may be cheaper to do it abroad (or is that wishful thinking?).

Does anyone have any suggestions where I could do the Dip for less? In the UK they seem to be around 1400-2000 - the distance courses being the most expensive. In addition, it seems no-one offers the Diploma in the Midlands, where I am based, so I'd need to move for the duration of the course, anyway.

And no - my employer won't help pay for it, either.

SE Asia.

(BTW, if you are teaching in the UK, you are not an EFL teacher, you're an ESL teacher).

Dastardly,

I'm a DELTA trainer, and presuming you are based in Worcester as in your avatar, could you check out the Brasshouse Language Centre in Birmingham who regularly offer the DELTA ? Also Warwickshire College in Leamington Spa offer the DELTA, as do Solihull College (greater Birmingham). I believe Cheltenham College offer the Trinity Dip TESOL.
Would you be able to commute to any of these at all??

GambateBingBangBOOM,

There are distinct differences in the UK between ESL and EFL, and they are offered at very different venues with a wide range of different materials. The EFL market is for those coming to the UK merely to study English and usually go to language schools and/or university courses. ESL students, on the other hand, are people who have immigrated to the UK usually for work purposes and make the UK their home. They have totally different aims and needs, and need to study for work-related qualifications and/or citizenship exams. These courses are offered at higher education or community colleges, and are often free.

They are two very separate markets in the UK.

Thanks Dedicated. I've been in touch with the Brasshouse and apparently they only offer the CELTA now. I'll have a look at those Colleges you mentioned, though.
