Hi everyone,
I've been recently looking at the ALT websites such as ALtia and Interac and i have noticed that are advertising "generous vacation packages" which include the summer and new year periods.
Altia's website states that the holidays are fully paid, but the interac one doesnt make it clear...Does anyone know if all of these days now being advertised by interac are unpaid? or whether there is a catch (i.e only applies to contracts that are 2 or more in length yet the only ones they recruit are on one year contracts?
thanks,
Los. |

The ALT contracts Interac offers vary. They were offering some in Kanagawa earlier this year with paid relocation and fully paid breaks. I know some Interac ALTs last year who got 70% during their breaks. I should also point out that almost all (the only ones that don't IIRC are JET and ECC Best Career FT) ALT contracts have about a 3 week unpaid period between contracts (technically your contract isn't for one year but like 48 or 49 weeks). |

I agree with Infalmes (nice name) low pay during these holidays (interac) but you aren't working and some are 5 to 6 weeks long (summer?) |

As a direct hire, I get the 6 week summer break as fully paid time off.
Same for the winter & spring breaks (3 weeks each in Dec/Mar respectively). |

Are you also looking forward to being fired before you reach the 3 year mark? |

there just aren't enough direct hires for all of us
(BTW, I am also direct hire and I can only get 2 weeks off, at summer
but fully paid) |

Actually, my school has expressed interest in keeping me around for a long time. However, they've not yet included the term "sennin" (tenure) in these discussions. So it is a bit of a concern. If/when I do get it, you all will be among the first to know. |

yes, there are a few good jobs out there
I have been in my direct hire ALT job for over 4 years! I suppose one could say thats "long term" for ALTs?
but, as I said, I don't get the holidays you get, I imagine very few do? (with full pay)
I can't imagine 6 weeks off with full pay!, but I am very happy with my job
I get well over 300,000 yen per month so ....
but I am a bit worried about when I do leave here .... |

I wish you all the best. Always nice to hear when someone manages to get tenure. |

Actually, it's 12 weeks for the year fully paid. Salary is over 300,000 as well, plus a (small) summer and winter bonus.
But yeah, that getting/not getting tenure may be the dealbreaker for this gig. It's great for kids out on a lark, but I need me something I can settle down with. |
