By the way, you didn't read my post correctly - I put just about, not the best.

Surely 'about the best' means 'the best' - if only by a small margin?

As shaikh n bake says, The Petroleum Institute package is better.

I too would be interested in which other four institutes with a better package offered mishmumkin employment. Smile

Of course it's arguable whether the inclusion of the words 'Saudi Arabia' in the BAe package makes it more attractive than the PI one.... Wink

The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECEA) offers monthly starting salaries of around 20,000 dirhams. The HCT starting salaries are substantially lower. I am not sure about the benefits though.

Again this all depends on what you include when you say salary (including allowances or not?) and it likely depend on your CV. They seem to be hiring all very experienced people or at least this year. I suspect that like PI, which is also small, it will become an employer that many want, but few get offers... and they are new enough that their salary structure is in ... flux. But, if you have an MA and many years of experience - especially in teacher training, it would be the place to look first.

The biggest disadvantage at this point is that you get a housing allowance instead of a provided flat and we all know how difficult it is to finding housing now. This year they managed to corral a new building, but are having problems getting everything up and running so the teachers can move in.

I was offered 5 positions in the Gulf this past spring, and HCT offered the worst package. Salary-wise, HCT was still the lowest with the exception of Sultan Qaboos in Oman

Mishmumkin you seemed to imply that you had 5 better offers than HCT and then put HCT and SQU in your list.QU's package isn't that great by the way.

I'd say that MM's post was very clear that she had five offers in the Gulf, one of which was HCT.

I know more than one teacher (other than MM) this year who were offered more from QU than from HCT or ZU. Again it depends on your credentials. My interpretation of the difference is that these were people with relatively new MAs, but who had a significant number of years of pre-MA related teaching experience in the Middle East. QU gave them credit for it, but HCT and ZU did not. It may have helped to get them an offer, but it didn't bump their salary up the scale. The rest of packages were pretty much equal - except that QU is lower pressure and I believe has a longer summer break. Two of them chose to go to QU while one chose ZU because she prefers the Emirates.

QU's offer is a flat rate regardless of experience, and it still pays more money that HCT pays the average MA TESOL holder with less than 8 years of experience. Friends who took the job report a much more relaxed work environment than friends who've been in HCT for years (a mixture of campuses). QU recruits are also paying less face time on campus than their counterparts at HCT (or any other Gulf institution, for that matter).
