Why did you choose your username?
Some of the nicks on here have me curious, such as shmooj, lozwich, lajzar, dyak, struelle, arioch36, ntropy, Ulyanov, et al.
Mine's an easy one, I think. I'm a female (using the politically incorrect term 'girl' ) who hails from Eastern Canada - Cape Breton Island, to be exact (hence the Caper part of my name).
And you? Share if you dare. |

i went for "chula" because im in mexico and men yell/whisper/hiss/say that to me all the time when im minding my business and walking down the street. so, my colleagues have taken to calling me that. and, if i put up my last name, which i usually use at my user ID on sites, my boss might see it and can me! |

My name is Lee, which is difficult to contract ("Christopher-Chris, David-Dave").
At school, I was known as "Leeroy" by some - a result (perhaps) of our rap-music originated obsession with US ebonics. The full version was Leeroy Badman.
Even now students are shocked and puzzled when they find out their English teacher is called "Lee".
"But is Chinese name!" they wail...
At one point, a Brazilian student found out his teacher was "Lee" and he complained to the school reception about getting a Chinese English teacher. I suppose his face brightened up when my blue eyes and brown hair waltzed into the classroom . |

I'm using part of the name of my HEEEERO, the Japanese cartoon character Cyborg Kurochan!
If you go to this link you can download the incredibly obnoxious opening credits to the program! (Incidentally, they, and especially the phenomenally obnoxious theme song, first attracted me to the program!)

johnslat = John Slattery
How unimaginative and mundane can I get! Not even a secret identity (but I DO have a decoder ring).

John |

Dear denise,
OK, I concede. YOU win the prize for unimaginative and mundane. Congratulations.

I read somewhere that a username should be generic to avoid problems. I chose my dog's name (Foster) as the best generic alternative.
And no, he is not named after an Aussie beer. |

Space, the final frontier...these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before. |
The narration before the opening credits of "Star Trek" pretty much sum up what the romantized vision of TEFL is in my mind...traveling to new places, experiencing different cultures, and visiting places that the majority of people back home only dream about visiting. James Tiberius Kirk, captain of the Enterprise, it the epitome of cool: always gets the girl, doesn't back down from a fight, ignores the "Prime Directive" and does what he thinks is best for all those involved, etc. I may never be as cool as Kirk, but the beauty of the web is that my username and avatar on Dave's can be!
Cheers,
Kirk |

Same as Foster, I had a scruffy little black dog that I had inherited which went by the name Woza. |

Very interesting so far, although I had figured a few of them out already (*cough* John, Denise, Lee).
No response as yet from any of the folks I mentioned in my OP, though. |

I went to school with a guy of this name and he had the biggest, baddest platform shoes of anyone in grade 2. He most likely grew up to be a KISS fan. He is also the only other Ross I went to school with. |
