I worked there recently, for a day, until I find out that 4 weeks of training for 4 hours a day goes unpaid. Speaking of not being willing to work for free, as has been brought up in the Harmon Hall topic.
Perhaps if I have no experience or previous training... but I already have that, so if they want me to do it their way, they need to make the investment.
Not to mention, they wanted me to skip my Spanish classes in order to attend their interviews.... and on another occasion, they wanted me to wait for an hour and a half, outside of the building, while they take lunch, to take more interviews...
and the personality test asked me several questions about my sex life and what I thought about marriage and/or just living with a boyfriend/girlfriend.
Really, it is a shame. They have a conversational model set up for teaching English and it seemed really interesting... I was looking forward to it.... but I will not work for free!!!
I would like to hear other people's experiences for them... |

I had private reasons for asking this question, hence the PM request, but I will share my experiences:

If that's true, it has changed. When I was there, the first week was unpaid, but you were given classes from the second week while continuing training.
Generally it is worth sticking it out, as, in my experience, they offer just about the best package for teachers among family owned, i.e. not chain, companies. Full legal benifits, paid per quincena, and they have a large number of blue-chip contracts. Also they are extremely well organized, with deptments for customer care, sales HR, etc. Again, unusual among the independent companies.

This kind of psychometric test is increasing common in Mexico, and actually, I quite enjoy giving my opinions...about anything, as regular forumer-users will know!  |

The 4 weeks unpaid training certainly bites and I don't blame you for dropping out, but it does seem to be a pretty normal thing with several language schools around town. Interlingua, Harmon Hall and Quick Learning all do the same thing. A few schools have a shorter program of about 1 week.

Phil, did you work for Georgal? Do they have you work in-house in an institute or travel all over town giving classes?
What about the FM-3? Do they make you get one with their name or are there other ways?

Phil: I think it is still the same then. You train for a week then you get classes the second week. So you get paid for the classes you are teaching, but you are not getting paid extra for the training you are taking.
Prof. Gringo: Thanks for the sympathy. I am just so disillusioned because I got my degree in TESOL so that I could get a better job internationally and it disappoints me that I can't find something decent. But hey, there is a reason that Mexicans by the thousands leave Mexico to work in the U.S., right? |

Your welcome. About the resons for Mexicans leaving here and going to the US - Sad but true.
Don't give up, yet. There are a lot of schools here in Mexico DF, but also a lot of horse and bull cr@p as well. You just gotta wade through it as best as you can (I sure hope you got some hip waders, it can deep out there)!
