I finished my (BA) distance learning studies last week now with oodles of time on my hands and a few hundred USD. Tethered to Thailand. Result is due mid-December (certificate May '09). Would prefer to teach (ANYWHERE) soon.

What to do in the meantime? One of my ideas is to go to Cambodia and teach (or) teach local in Thailand (or) else wait until my result and (stand-in certificate). Cambodia is my preference, however, not so familiar with the current teaching scene?

My main goal is to teach in Taiwain 1-year. I am upfront and not out to tell tales. Two-three months is a long time doing zip! Have a TEFL and A Level. 34 years. Born England. Reply if you know a school who'll employ me 6 months. Asian countries.

I have taught in BKK before, but as a casual Native English Speaking Teacher 1-year.

Odar'll take teachers off of the street if there is money to be made.

He is to be trusted just as long as he you don't fall out with him but be aware that Omeida have no certificate allowing them to legally employ Foreign Experts, although Odar seems to have enough guanxi to get residency permits for teachers via friends in Hunan easily enough.

But Yangshuo is great, and the scenery is superb. Buy a motorbike and get out and about on your own, keep your wits about you and...

Enjoy!

Hi

I personally think with a Bachelor and a native in English you can choose Teaching where ever you want.
I was teaching in Thailand for three years, two years for an agency and one year directly with the school.
I don't have a Bachelor and I'm not native but fluent.

The best experience I made with the school, if I would do it again I would avoid agencies.

For me Thailand is great place to teach, I even tought maybe Laos, they if you are lucky pay slidly more than in Thailand and it's a beautiful country.

I don't know anything about Cambodia, but it's worth to consider Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia.

The other opportunity which is maybe interesting is Vietnam. If you like Asia all those countries are worth to stay a few years.

I currently live in New Zealand and planning to go back to Thailand in a few years to retire and see Asia from there.

To your success

Wolfgang

hmmm, still not sure of my next move- likely rest on laurels- do little until the stand-in-certificate arrives. Meantime, aim to stay clear of trouble and mail resumes and covering letters to prospectibve employers. Will start local and hedge a bet across the border- not China anyhow. See what transpires.

Cambodia may have been an option, but the same question went unanswered on the Cambodian board. Stay put with what is familiar. Thank you- wolf4495, serious-fun, stillnosheep, and nickpellatt.
