Hi there!
I have a couple of questions if that's ok!
The situation is that my partner and I are looking to move to Tianjin to teach. She has taught for a year with JET in Japan as an ALT and has a BSc. I taught at an ESL school in Japan teaching over a thousand lessons one to one. Although I don't have a degree, I've three years of higher study of photography which is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. We've both been back in Scotland for a couple of years but would like to teach again.
So first of all is would we both be alright getting jobs teaching? I know not having a degree is a pain is the ass.
Secondly, when is the main hiring time for employers?
Finally, does anybody any really good web sites for job listings in Tianjin? I've found a few alright ones googling but nothing really extensive.
Thanks

Of all the dumps that are piled up around China, you should perhaps consider one that has at least some charm.
Tianjin is dusty flatness -- with the odd bump of architectural ugly punctuating the common bland -- expanding until it hits something of note. Fortunately for China, Tianjin has these certain limits (as flexible as they are). Were the inflation of the city indefinate, the earth would soon be consumed and kicked out of our beautiful solar system, condemned to roam the dark parts of the universe kicking plastic bottles into black holes.
There is allure and character to parts of China. But if you are into men who like farting while fishing for dead fish in Tianjin's rancid canals, the city awaits! |

While Shan Shan's description of Tianjin in harsh it's pretty much on the mark. I would have been out of Tianjin long ago but I got married and had a baby.
Best place for info on Tianjin especially for living there and things to do is www.tianjinexpats.com
It is a very good site full of helpful people. I will say this if you go to TJ say good bye to blue sky except once in a blue moon.

The blue sky comment makes me sad. I've been to that city in May, and the dust factor was unbelievable. I just applied for a job in that city...I think I can put up with 10 months of crappy air - I put up with 10years of crappy air in Korea!
Thanks for the link. |

I'm just curious, why "put up" with the crappy air? Are there other aspects of the city you find alluring enough to put up with the terrible air pollution ? |

Yeah, an International School job. If it was for an ESL job, I'd pass. |

Tianjin's air quality has improved quite a bit in the last two or three years. There have been plenty of blue skies recently. Still doesn't make it a great city, but in terms of Chinese cities it's not such a bad place to live. |
