I have just left UEA having had more than enough of the "teaching".
The life was fine. The students were mostly dreadful. In the 3 years I was there they got worse (behavior and ability) year on year.

'....And like my Mommy said (she is 90 now): What is the problem didn't you get paid, and also fed by the employer, when you went to the PD sesson? ...'

Oh, well, that's all right, then. As long as you're well-fed and reasonably paid, that's all anyone could possibly ask for, isn't it.

This reminds me of a long-ago ex-colleague saying in tones of not-so-quiet desperation: I WANT, I REALLY WANT to feel grateful for the nice apartment; the livable salary; the comfy lifestyle. But .... I want to know why old X, who was no worse than anyone else, was 'terminated'; why young Y, who can't write a sentence, passed the exam; why Z was undermined by his line manager; why A was hung out to dry by her so-called colleagues; why we all claim to have a 'higher' education, but behave like Stepford Wives.....etc.

Of course, the answer was immediately forthcoming: Just LEAVE, if you can't toe the line.

In other words, don't rock the boat. It's a jolly nice boat. And those of us who are Masters of the (local) Universe don't like being reminded of uncomfortable stuff like pedagogic content, professional ethics and attitudes, etc. Just get in there and teach your Critical Thinking class, and keep yr gob shut.

Beautifully summed up, eha, at least as far as the HCT is concerned.

Words of advice I got from crusty old QA manager (Quality Assurance) at Bell Helicopter in Iran in 1975:
"Keep your mouth shut and put your money in the bank."

Words that served me well in a 30 year career in Iran, Saudi, and the UAE.
