I have tried unsuccessfully to look for info on the internet. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do an MA in TESOL / TEFEL in 12 or 18 months at any South African university? Thanks.

Hi,
I would suggest a search of each university in the major cities. I know they are available. Also don't discount UNISA a distance learning (some attendance) campus based in Pretoria. They have very flexible programs.

This is quite a late reply, so I hope you're still around!

The University of Stellenbosch offers a very stimulating 24-month programme: MA in Linguistics for the Language Professions. You can specialise in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching - that's the closest you'll get to an MA in TEFL or TESOL at the moment in SA. UNISA's option sounds a bit over the top with a very heavy thesis at the end - in addition to all that course work.

Above-mentioned course is affordable and faculty very supportive. Good luck!
