Read AR gov website and your previous posts, but details are vague. Can you confirm the 90 day visa US$130 fee when Americans make a border run every 90 days? Anyone already pay this recently? Sure this fee starts Jan 2009?

If we do have a steady teaching job, do you think we could ask the school to reimburse us for this fee?

US$130 is just about all I might save every 90 days, so it might be a deal-breaker and force EFL teachers to flee AR?

I'm no lawyer, but I presume that it is officially law as of now... there's no date for when it is likely to actually come in to force - bear in mind that all these processes move slowly in Argentina, especially as the Interior Ministry has to draw up the list....

For those who can't read Spanish the basics are:

1) Argentina will charge a reciprocal fee to all foreigners who a) do not need a visa and b) come from a country that requires Argentine nationals to pay for a visa/entry fee

2) The fee will be charged at every port, international airport and border crossing.

3) It will be the same fee that the tourist's country charges Argentines, converted into pesos at the official rate of the Banco de la Nacin Argentina

4)The details will be drawn up by the Ministerio del Interior, taking into mind things like Multiple-entry visas - I take that to mean that if a U$130 visa allows Arg citizens multiple entries to the US then the U$130 fee could allow a US citizen multiple entries to Argentina (don't hold your breath on this one)

So.... it's definitely happening - but there are still a few questions to be raised - it certainly makes the $50 overstayers fee even more attractive to US/CAN/AUS teachers in BsAs

Chile also mentions they now have reciprocity US$130 tourist visa fee for Americans. But Chile is a bit more clear: That fee is PAID ONE TIME ONLY COVERING FUTURE multiple entries every 90 days. But they have a separate local entry fee every 90 days but doesn't mention how much.

Anyone else? Clarification? US$130 every 90 days or one-time only? Razz

That's the exact text - but it's all down to how the Interior Ministry decide it, I suspect that they haven't decided anything yet... It will probably be similar to the Chilean one...
