I was going through books that I have before an upcoming renovation, and I know I have some books I pulled some activities out of (haven't decided whether to chuck the books yet or just cut out the pages I want as back up copies), but then I also realized I have books I completely forgot about. Two sets were a small set of graded readers, and the other were a few books for TOEIC (I teach a class that has the TOEIC score as part of their grade, though we don't have to specifically teach for the TOEIC).

Now I do use 8 regular course books, 5 of those for 1 year classes, and an assortment of other books for other activities. the number of books I have that I'm getting rid of must be about 40 or so, a lot of lower level English books I just don't use, and also some topic related reading books.

But what about you, how many books do you have, and are there some you never use, and which ones do you use most often?

In my own personal collection, you mean? Very few. I move around so much that I am constantly aware of luggage, weight restrictions, etc. And I am always naively optimistic that the places I work for will have well-stocked libraries of their own so that I don't need my own personal library. And when that turns out not to be the case, I simply use the internet.

hi
all back-up materials I have - both self-designed and published - I put are on a 2Gb flash. No books.

It simply has to be the way to go. It takes a bit of time but in the end it is worth it.

Many complete books can be downloaded from 'MegaDownload'

Anyone else do the same ?

And if your flash card gets cooked? What do you do then?

I make material and get things from the Internet all the time, but sometimes it's useful not to have to reinvent the wheel.

i always keep a copy of the stuff/flash stuff on a laptop.

you may say that the weight of lugging around a laptop defeats the object of reducing weight but id carry it around anyway - e.g. to watch films, surf internet etc - so having materials on the flash still remains more convenient.

Are you that bored during the work day? I don't usually have that much free time. The few people I know who bring one often bring it from their offices (they're full timers) or because they like to update stuff and make stuff on it.

Sometimes I will do that on the CALL room computers (play movie clips for my students, make files, etc.), but actually I don't need the weight to lug around, thank you.
