Greetings all,

I'm in the process of trying to find a job, but feel like there might be a better way of going about it, than what im currently doing, which is checking job boards.

I've received contact from schools like Aston, but just feel like I'd rather not go the language mill route.

What i'd like to do instead, is somehow get a list of schools in cities that I'm interested in, and just start sending out unsolicited emails to them with my resume attached. Is this a good idea?

The problem I'm having is that I cant really find a good list of schools. I did find this wiki list of Universities and was going to use it, but thought I would ask you all first and see if anything better exists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China#Sichuan

Not sure if anyone will ask, but I'm about to graduate (in 4 weeks!! woo-hoo!) with my bachelors degree in English. I have about 8 years of corporate experience and I spent 2 of those years in a teaching capacity in a training department (not sure how much this counts, but it's definitely going on the resume Smile

Anyways, any advice or information is appreciated!

Hmmm....just found an interesting site called "BuxiBan" that seems to have what I'm looking for. The thing is, you have to pay to get access to the database.

Before I dive in, does anyone have any experience using this site? Is it helpful to use this list?

Any info is appreciated. Sorry about so many posts! Just trying to get my ducks in a row Smile

Thanks again,
Evan

Evan, first I wouldn't recommend paying for a website to look for jobs.

Second, sending an email to a university sounds like a great idea -in the West maybe. You can't assume that it will ever find the correct person(s) by simply sending an email to an address.

Chances are, you email won't make it very far.

The best advice is to simply look at the many many websites that offer jobs and try and find direct likes through them .

Also, if you have a specific city in mind then you can do a more focused search and also ask Daves posters for help in looking for a decent job in that vicinity.

Seriously, don't just look for a job and for any job. Look for the criteria that meets you needs.

Not everyone wants to work in a big city like Shanghai and not everyone wants to work in the country.

Consider asking recruiters for help - but that doesn't mean you should use them but often they have their own websites with jobs you may never find on your own.

There is no "good" list of schools and while I use Wikipedia for teaching I don't think it will help you land a job in China.

If you want a trust worthy recruiter to chat with on MSN send me a pm and I will give you her MSN. Jobs aside, I chat with her sometimes for hours just to pass time away. Her English is good and she has a good sense of humor. One of my friends in the past got a job through her and he was very satisfied.

As far as your real experience teaching in the real world, like anything else play it up to make yourself look like you just fell out of Valhalla.

Lots of people, myself included, have used the site below to find a decent school. It's location specific.
Please note though:
- go direct to the school contact, unless you want to work with an agent.
- some of the pages/links are not up to date

People who biatch about the site clearly haven't used it properly.
