Well, after reading many of the postings here, I can only say that I'm glad to be out of Oman and in particular, the teaching scene there. I do miss the natural beauty of Oman, but actually working there, no way. Working now in Europe and earning just as much as I did in Oman, with much more of the benefits and peace of mind; the lovely boulevards and out-door cafes, hearing and seeing genuine laughter on the street, couples embracing and holding hands, families together and children running and playing, men and women together, really together, enjoying life to the fullest and feeling free to be themselves.
You may make more money in the Gulf, but for too many teachers is a pitiful existence devoid of happiness and existential fulfillment. How sad it it to sell your life to the highest bidder. |

I saw most of what you mention in Qurum Park on Thurdsday afternoon.
Keep telling yourself that you are SOOOO much better off. Soon you will believe it. |

Some of us do still manage to enjoy our lives here. Yes, I came here for the money, but I've chosen to stay for other reasons--happiness, fulfillment...

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Oman, before eventually moving on to other Gulf countries. What I didn't enjoy was meeting guys like Steppy-preppy Boy, as they tended to make life miserable for all concerned. Thank god another of his ilk has left the Gulf. |
