Hey,

I'm going to be in Kaohsiung for the weekend and will probably be staying near the train station. Does anyone have any suggestions for:

1)Bars

I don't really care what kind of bar. I'm going with my girlfriend, and we're just looking for a place to grab a few drinks in the evening. Hopefully a place that's fun with a cool atmosphere. No clubs though. We're not looking to dance, just hang out and relax.

2)Western Restaurants(or others if they're good)

Again, I don't really care what kind. American, Italian, Pizza, Thai, Vietnamese, whatever. Even Chinese is cool if it's good. Basically, as long as the food is good, and it's not a million miles from the train station.

OK, so that's about it. Any suggestions of good bars and restaurants in the downtown area would be appreciated. Also, if you happend to know what streets they are on, that would be great.

Thanks,

fich

Hop in a cab...its not near the train station, but the cab ride wont be more than $300NT. If you cant speak Chinese, dial the bar, tell them you want directions for a cab and give the phone to the cabby.

Ask the cabby to take you to the Lighthouse in Tzoying District.
239, FuGuo Road, ZuoYing, Kaohsiung
(07) 559-2614

Its a great Western/Local pub/restaurant, great atmosphere, lots of tvs, friendly staff, and great food.

If you're looking for a kick ass restaurant, check out the Bayou. Also is Tzoying District. Amazing food, probably one of the best in Kaohsiung, for GREAT value.
Ming Cheng 1st Rd #226. Near the Min Tzu Dollars. If you need directions our number is (07) 310-7293

The other good option is The Black Dog bar, which is downtown-ish, near the Hanshin supermall.
142, YunWen St.
(07) 241-0270

Kaohsiung is a great city, but there isn't too much down by that train station of interest, but again, dont sweat the cab rides. They are typically honest, and friendly, and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!!

Ganbei!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I just got back, and although I got the responses too late for me to take advantage of them, I still had a good time. And, if I ever go back I'll have some new places to try.

Thanks,

Fich
