I am looking to teach in Japan next year and I am thinking of applying to Interac, ECC orAEON, although I'm leaning towards AEON. I am going over with a friend, and we would like to be placed near each other-AEON's website says that they try to accomodate for this, and I was wondering if Interac or ECC accomodated for this as well-I couldn't find any information regarding whether or not they do.

Also, we would preferably like to be placed in Kyushu, (Miyazaki especially), and I was wondering what company would be most able to place us there. ECC's website didn't have Kyushu on their list of preferred destinations..

any help would be very much appreciated! Smile

Hey Jacks,

I had originally applied to Aeon because of the accomodation line on their site about trying to place people close together and I had a friend also interested in applying (Edit: That makes it sound as though I only applied because of this line. I didn't. Aeon's information was straight forward, understandable, the conditions looked good, I had spoken to many previous employees who enjoyed their experiences etc..... This line was just an added bonus that they would try to accomodate friends/family). I went through the interview process and the friend flaked so I was placed in a city that fit all of my preferences. A few months after I got the placement a different friend applied and also got the job and she had very similar preferences to me and the recruiter knew that we knew eachother. Now I'm leaving this Thursday and my friend isn't leaving until February (because she got the job about 4 months later than I did) but she's going to a city that only about 15 mins by bullet train or an hour by regular bus. So we're excited and very glad that Aeon did their best to place as close together. It would have been nice to go over around the same time but since I applied earlier and got my placement sooner I'll have been there for 3 months before she arrives.

These large chains say that they will try to accommodate your requests for placement.

Try.

That's all they can do. In the end, you go where the vacancies are. Roll the dice.

Even if just applying alone, getting placed in Kyushu is not easy. With a friend who'll also be fresh off the plane you can drop the odds even lower. It'll probably be easier for you if you state that you'll go anywhere as long as your friend is close by. You should specify how close as well (in terms of time).

Hmm. That probably would be my best bet, wouldn't it? Thanks for the advice. Perhaps if I end up staying more than a year I can work my way down south on my own.
