|
|
Unlike rcruiters, who are commonly cursed, most Visa Agents have earned a good reputation.
One that I have known for years is Foreverbright in Hong Kong. There are other good Visa Agents
Here is a letter from them concerning the current situation for visas, including 6month visas (having a 6 month F visa does not allow you to work legally, but it sure gives a degree of assurance) and the all important z-visa.
Be aware, take note, the vast body of posters recommend soming to China on a z-visa. If you arrive on an L visa, the school must still get your work permit invitation letter. Provinces differ in how stringent they apply the rules. But if you come her on an L visa (not suggested) who will pay for your 3 day trip to Hong Kong? Make sure your contract says the school will pay for all costs associated with switching to a z-visa, or expect to pay the costs yourself
Novemebr 26 2008
HI,NOW ONLY SINGLE OR DOUBLE IS AVAILABLE TO YOU.MAYBE NEXT MONTH,YOU CAN GET THE 6 MONTHS MULTIPLE CHINA VISA.Z VISA,IF YOU HAVE THE TWO DOCUMENTS JUST LIKE THE FILE ATTACHED,SO,WE CAN GET IT AT HONGKONG FOR YOU.
REGARDS

I went there once with a New Zealand friend. Dropped his passport in the morning at about 9 and it was ready at about 4.
We hung out in HK for the day and back to mainland for the evening. This was before the olympics of course.
Nice people to work with. |

2-3 days is a long waiting period; other agencies can do the same job in half a day for no surcharge (or they may apply a higher price for all their visas).
I don't recommend any of these agencies for the needs of laowai teachers; their raison d'etre is to serve foreign businesspeople arriving without a visa for the Canton Trade Fairs. |

Eddy Cool, I agree with you that 2-3 days is too long to wait for a visa.
For the record and from their website, verbatim, Forever Bright :
Work Visa (Z Visa)
Issued to foreigners who are to take up a post or employment in China and their accompanying family members. Work visa is not available in our office.
So anyone using the services of Forever Bright, and indeed they are a really good company in terms of visa agents, would be using them for an L or F visa, at least according to the information currently listed on their site.
http://www.fbt-chinavisa.com.hk
Very useful for those seeking L and or F visas. |

That is indeed what the website says, but their response to Arioch's query in the OP seems to indicate that they will help process Z-visas? Or are they just saying that if you've got the paperwork it shouldn't be a problem getting it on your own? Still a little confused here!
In other news, a recruiter at Aston who I've been speaking with wrote to me a day or two ago to say that he "recently received word that Hong Kong should be able to do work visas again sometime in the near future. I'm not sure when yet, we are still looking into this." Will definitely keep everyone posted on what I hear.
Also want to give a big thanks to both Arioch and NCL for their help on this very nebulous and frustrating issue. Cheers |

Unnecessary confusion.
The reason you have to wait over the weekend is because the visa issuing office is closed.
No travel agent can help you with that. |

I got a z-visa in one day from forever bright last week. I am sure I could have went directly to the consulate to get it though, because my documents said to go to HK, but my school didn't want to waste money on a trip with no results. |

Does this statement mean that you had doubts you could do it yourself but you felt confident that ForeverBright could get it done the same day? And they did get it done the same day for a Z visa? |

Why use a visa service when you can save a ton of money and do it yourself?
Peep out this information and go there yourself. Don't pay someone else all that money. Its not that difficult to get a visa in Hong Kong if you have the appropriate paperwork.

Iam confused: Why do job applicants entrust a private business with the obtention of a work visa in Hong Kong of all places?
Do they fear the Chinese Visa Office in Wanchai wouldn't grant it? Why would that be?
After all, you get a work visa from any Chinese consulate (or from the Chinese Government Offices in Hong Kong) if you meet relevant criteria.
I happen to know Ever Bright but have always thought they are helping businesspeople get a business visa.
They do not, after all, provide the visa themselves; they physically move your passport to a government bureau in Shenzhen.
Last time I had an F visa procured by a HK agent the issuing authority was 'Guangdong P.S.B.'
I was told they were in Shenzhen. |

I would possibly do it for the simple convenience. You go across the border, step into their office. They make sure that your pictures are the right size, and that you filled out the right forms for a modest fee. No need for worrying. Then you go to play in Hong Kong, come back later to pick up your papers. When you take into account taxi fees, possible problems, time spent in lines, or whatever, yeah do it yourself if you feel confident in your way around Hong Kong and in your Chinese.
But I persononally would use an agency if I had to go to Hong kong for papers saves time and hassles |

Well, I think I could have done it myself, saved the school some money, but they wanted to use the company to do it. Their money, so I wont argue. Number two, I did not need to pay money until I got the visa. If you go to the consular alone and for some reason you are denied you lose your money. With this company, if they didn't get the visa I would not have lost anything but time.
I gave them the paper work on Monday and picked up the visa Tuesday morning. Not really one day, like in the states where I gave the application in the morning and picked up the visa in the afternoon.
Also, the visa is processed in HK, not Shenzhen. You are not really allowed to get a Z visa on the mainland (though I am sure someone can do it in some cases). Everbright goes to the HK consulate and does the process for you. I am assuming they have some guanxi to get things done better (meaning if there is some problem it is settled instead of denying your visa), probably some family that works at the consular. So, if you don't want to deal with bad english, baihua, and your school will pay for it (which they always should) it is a good method. |
