Hola a todos....

i have a few concerns about teaching in Latin America...

i am very interested in teaching almost anywhere in latin america but i'm kinda concerned about the pay that EFL teachers make!....I currently work as a substitute in California therefore i don't make much money but i am able to take care of my needs...and i also don't live beyond my means!!!

teaching abroad is something that i am strongly pursing but i have to be able to take care of my needs NOT just fund my travels! By needs i mean school loans that have come with my BA and MA degrees, living expenses (rent, food, transportation)....i don't live excessively but i would need to be able to take care of my needs and have a little $$ for my wants!

(i wish i could just leave my school loans behind but i can't!!)

i want to know what realistic pay is like in Latin America and which countries (if any) provide decent pay....by decent i mean being able to pay for living expenses and paying my school loan!!!

any information & tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

Is your MA in English or related to teaching? If so, you should be able to land a good job at an international school and earn between 1000 and 3000 usd per month, meaning, you'll be able to save or ship home at between $300 and $1000 per month. The top jobs aren't plentiful though...you'll need timing and luck on your side.

My MA is in english education therefore i have heard i can get a job teaching in an international school....i just want to make sure that i can live comfortably and not have to do odd jobs!

i wish i could just work to fund my travels but i still have to be responsible with my loans back here in the states!!

any other information regarding what countries offer decent pay both for language institutes and international schools??

It will always be hard at language institutes to earn enough to pay back a student loan in the US...you'd earn enough to live comfortably in-situ, but the loan may be a deal breaker.

For international schools, the best locations to check into are Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Chile, and Brazil. Argentina can be good too if you luck out. Remember, South American countries start the fall semester at the start of March.
