Here in The Land of the Rising Sun, they stick us with 2,000 US dollars worth of residence tax per year and 170.00 US dollars worth of health insurance per month (this is after 2 years however; that is the magic time demarcation).

Whatcha' got over there? Don't even ask about toll road charges.........

I'm getting closer to moving to HK all the time it seems.

Any information appreciated.

We know not that of which you speak, strange one, for here we have not the peculiar and vexatious taxations which you describe in such peeved and exasperated terms, small though they appear to be. Furthermore, if you wish to purchase health insurance in our land that is entirely at your discretion and the size of such a purchase is also entirely freely chosen, be your insurance needs humble, voluminous or non-existent for verily we are free men.

We do have MPF though.

Yes, though we need to add a little footnote here. You only have to pay the $1,000 a month MPF if you are unable or are unwilling to demonstrate that you have an independent retirement fund plan abroad.

OP, taxes here are low, especially for those who are married with dependants, and last year they were all but non-existent as everyone got a tax rebate to the tune of around 90% of the total tax demand. Two months ago my entire electricity bill was paid for by the government as well. The government had 'too much' cash in their coffers....
