This information was posted on another forum. Have any of you had your UAE bank card rejected in other countries?
"Just visited my bank and discussed use of UAE based bank issues ATM and credit cards abroad. They informed me that all cards issued from UAE banks will be rejected at ATM and POS in the following countries (a lot of popular holiday destinations here):
Albania
Bosnia
Bulgaria
Estonia
Georgia
Hungry
Latvia
Lithuania
Macedonia
Romania
Serbia
Slovenia
Ukraine
Nigeria
Kosovo
Slovakia
Mexico
PNG
And cards will be rejected for ATM transactions in the following countries:
Austria
Brazil
Canada
Croatia
Egypt
France
Finland
Italy
Malaysia
Philippines
Qatar
Russia
Spain
Thailand
Turkey
UK
US
Lebanon
Greece
Sweden
Ireland
Reason given was the high incidence of fraud occuring with cards in these countries and/or large number of copied cards being produced in the UAE." |

It seems to me that it would be more useful to know what countries, if any, accept the cards.

This is a measure taken to protect you. You need to ensure you secure a card that is for international use before you leave the UAE! And your email has served the purpose of reminding I need to do just that - thanks! |

The UAE accepts them. Just joking.
Happy Thursday and Happy American Thanksgiving. |

On a recent trip to Oman my card didn't work (tried 3 different machines). Luckily I had plenty of alternatives, i.e. UAE dirhams in cash... Not sure whether this was a result of policy or just dodgy machines. I have never managed to get cash out at Al Jizzi border crossing, the machine is either out of order or empty of cash, but I usually succeed elsewhere but not this time. |

I have a Union National Bank Bankcard/Electron Visa Card and have had no problems in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Turkey and Oman. In fact, it has never been rejected from any bank machine used - touch wood. I did talk to a UNB bank representative last week who said that by the end of the year they will be replacing all bank cards with the ones that have the chip for better security/ fraud control when using them abroad. |
