Hi,
Little requestochka, as they say here in Russia.
I am due to give a little talk to the local teachers this Saturday about the communicative method. Unfortunately, due to
a) leaving my TESOL notes back in London
b) having a grand total of about 5 months English teaching experience
..I don't feel hugely well prepared to give this talk. I was hoping to find some basic summaries of the theory behind CLT and its precursors on the web. Got any pointers to such goodies that you're willing to share ?
cheers IA |

I've got a pdf version (1Mb) of Canale & Swain's early article highlighting the benefits of CLT versus other approaches. It dates from 1980 and it shows but you could plunder it for some stuff if you want. The resolution isn't great but it's readable.
I've also got a version of Hymes' "On Communicative Competence" which started the whole thing off really. Dated even earlier, it is more theoretical. It's a scan in from an article I had from my MA so its just gif files.
PM me if you want either of these and I'Ll get back to you. |

Just a little public thankyou to Shmooj for those files. The presentation went fine, although it was way too rushed. I'm very philosophical about such things nowadays. Getting old I suppose
Some of the teachers were keen to get a copy of the articles. Spasiba bolshoye. |
