Pay attention to what *everybody* is saying, even those of us being flippant: they're all being accurate because they're all relating *their* experiences *and they're all very different*. Anything that generalizes across everyone is likely to be so vague as to be next to useless. Like, "Japan has four seasons" or "Korea sucks".

I tried to say this from the very beginning of this post, but the OP didn't listen.

I think they're the sort that, if it's something they don't want to hear, needs things repeated twenty times before they pay attention. You know, like a five year old. Wink

Cthulu -
Thankyou for your observation.
However you do not need to bring this to my attention as it is rather obvious - I am already quite aware of the difference between subjective experience and objective reality and of the utility of generalisations.
I would however put it to you that there is some value to hearing accounts of peoples subjective experiences no matter how varied and contradictory. Patterns and themes emerge and it is in these, amongst other things, that I am interested.
On this particular issue, I merely asked the gentleman about his particular working hours out of interest had, not because I had extrapolated from his reply that I would have no weekends either.
I do hope we can continue any further communications in a civil manner .

Well, you see, as I've been trying to tell you, ESID (every situation is different).

There will be some conversation schools that split the 2 weekend days per week. Sunday and Tuesday, Saturday and Wednesday, etc. Unless they have enough teachers and the willingness to let you swap shifts, this may happen.

And, in other cases like mine was, Saturday and Sunday were always off.

Get into mainstream schools, and you may face a private school situation where you have to work 2 Saturdays a month, and if that happens to be back to back, you could easily work 4 straight weeks with only Sunday off.

Hello Glenski.
I realise all situations are different (my mates work part time in Japan for example) - I was just trying to have a conversation with the guy.
Nonetheless thanks for taking the time to tell me about your working hours - that is useful information .

Gusss,
Are you really paying attention? Those weren't my working hours I wrote about.

Last call for trying to explain this to you.
I understand what you are driving at by trying to get a lot of opinions from people's individual experiences. However, you have asked about teaching in general in Japan, not a specific venue of teaching. Consequently, the answers have varied so much as to give you virtually nothing.

If you could ask about what type of teaching interests you, perhaps the playing field could be narrowed and made more useful. Just a thought.

Unfortunately Glenski I do not believe communicating any further with you would prove productive - so I will not be responding to any more of your posts.
