				| Offered a job teaching in Ibra from TATI. Can anyone clue me in about the town, the tech college, and what it's going to cost me to find a decent apartment(I got a 350 OMR housing allowance)? Some constructive advice, please. | |

				| Be sure to do a search. There have been discussions of Ibra... and it is a pretty small and boring place. You need to be someone who can occupy himself/herself.
This is a new recruiter that has not been mentioned here before. If I were you, I would assume that they are little better than the other ones mentioned here... ie it will be marginal job.

Hopefully someone will come on who knows the rental costs. One takes these jobs if one feels the money is worth the negatives.

				| Ibra has got to be better than Ibri.

				| Ibra or Ibri??
 This can be confusing.

Also, I thought TATI made vehicles
350 OR, given the current rental prices in Oman is quite good, something I would expect to see for Muscat rather than a town out in the boondocks. Even in Salalah, you would get a very nice furnished place for that allowance. What about the salary and ex's do they match the housing offer?
I would like to hear from anyone who is employed by TATI. what are the conditions? Only those who have been recruited by them can reply with meaningful evidence.

very persistant for me to take the job, but they are unable to get me in contact with some current teachers to get the real, non-recruiter scoop.

				| Ibra is quite a pleasant little town in the Sharquiyya Province. It is about two hours drive to Muscat on good roads, with one dangerous piece in Wadi Aq just before you meet the main Muscat Nizwa highway.
Sur is about one and a half hourts drive in the other direction.

Ibra is very close to the Wahiba Sands, and a numnber oif tour companies are now oiffering Desert safari trips to the Wahiba, with the result that facilities in the surrounding areas have been upgraded a bit.

Ibra could be a bit stressful for someone with limited internmar resources, but if you have accompanied status then you ought to be fine.
The housing allowance would not be generous by Muscat standards, but for Ibra it should be more than sufficient - remember that you could actually live slightly out of Ibra in a village like Al Yahmadi, and then the rent might be less.

It is difficult to give genuine advice to a complete stranger, because what I regard as liveable might not come up to your standards. (Recently we had a posted complaining that he received no hardship allowance for living in Sur. Sur has, among other things, a luxury beach hotel, so how that squares with the idea of hardship I leave to your imagination.)

At current exchange rates, 1000 rials a month is quite good.

				| I have been in communications with the TATI reps as well, though I have been dealing with people at Network Overseas, based in London. The package is about the same, though I was told my options were Nizwa and Muscat (with the housing allowance adjusted upwards for the Muscat positions). If anyone learns anything about these positions or this organisation, I would love to hear about it. | |
