Yes, this is an unfortunate state of affairs. I would dearly love to confine my beer drinking to the fine India Pale Ale. But circumstances dictate that I have only Bintang, Angker, Bali Hai, and an assortment of supposedly import beers, which are, in fact, brewed under license her in Indonesia.

I fear they may use the same brewing process, utilizing formaldehyde as a preserver (and hangover intensifier!).

I was saddened while on a recent visit to Bugils bar to find that this supposedly Dutch pub does not sell Dutch beer. In fact, I could not pinpoint anything at this establishment which could be remotely considered Dutch (with the exception of the owner, of course).

Furthermore, they choose to provide beer in a glass rather than selling bottles; Thus making it a rather more expensive evening.

I do not approve of this practice in a bar of this type.

Never been a fan of Bugills really but sometimes frequent it. However Bingtang drank with mixing other beers is great for me, however If you add Bali Hai or Heineken to the drinking then the hangover starts before I even leave for home.

Bugils or Bugills I forget is closing soon (so I am told) which in my opinion is a great shame as it has been here for so long.

So where will this English Teachers Association be held is there a planned date?

I've been here for about 7 months already and wouldn't mind meeting some new people.

I know a few others who would also probably be interested.

So.....let's do something!

Sorry for not responding to this from the onset...

I'm not able to join get-togethers in the JaBoDeTaBek area as I live far away in the deepest, darkest regions of Interior Indonesia. Therefore, if this is a Jakarta only organization, I'll have to pass.

I would be quite interested in an association that spans the nation and provides services like that Melati group that was mentioned 2 pages ago. http://www.kpcmelati.org/forum/. I would also be interested in anything where I can brush up on my skills (ie: become a better teacher) and increase my knowledge of the language. I have certain weaknesses as a teacher and would love to eliminate them. Further, having been here so long, and having been infected by Indoglish, I am desperate to converse with those who actually know how to use the Queen's English well.

Since there is the hashers & harriets (HASH) in some cities, I don't need a social organization, and I'm certainly not interested in getting drunk. Hangovers are something I avoid with complete dedication. If the social side of the organization were to include events that were actually interesting (rafting, camping, seeing the cultural heritage of Indonesia without going on a tour, etc.), that would appeal to me.

Because I am sometimes the conveyor of information about schools and the information originates from other people whom I am protecting, I would not be willing to reveal my online monicker to anyone in the organization. That won't stop me from appearing, and I might just come in a cloak, wide-brimmed hat and sport a dagger for easy identification. Wink

If this is to be a strictly social organization, with no benefits to teachers, I would think it's hardly necessary. You can go to Jalan Jaksa for the same effect. Wink Pub crawling would not be on my "to-do" list...

'The Queen' is the only person who uses 'the Queen's English', which is in fact quite weird if you listen for a while and then undertake a discourse analysis.

I wasn't aware that other people aren't allowed to use that type of English. I guess I should do a discourse analysis. Embarassed

Long enough to know that I shouldn't kiss an over-eager woman on the first date because she might actually be an attractive transvestite (although I haven't yet seen a transvestite THAT attractive!)!!!! Twisted Evil

Call it the seven-year itch plus... Wink
