Do you have to leave Japan to change a tourist temporary visa into a work visa, or has the situation changed and can it all be done inside of Japan? If not, where is the cheapest and easiest place to go to arrange this? thanks

As of a few years ago, you no longer have to leave the country to do that.

Where to go? Immigration office nearest your home.
