No need to be defensive and derisive. I didn't say you were wrong, just that I didn't know any women-only universities.

If I am behind the times, so is Effat College; their website still calls it a college, and there is no news release saying it is a university now.

OK, so let's say Effat is one of the several, as you said. Which others are there, in KSA and other Gulf countries?

Well, according to this site, Saudi Arabia a Number One:

Thanks for the clarification about ZU, I admit my wrong information.

So now we have slowly, but steadily, reached 2 women-only unis in the Gulf.

Part of the problem here is the definition of "women only university." Zayed University has always been women only (though with a mixed staff). What about the fact that UAEU and QU are split into separately male and female branches? What about places in Saudi like PSU and Al-Yamamah which have separate branches?

In my definition, I would consider all of those to be existing women-only universities.

Another problem that one sees repeatedly in any new release in the Middle East is that everything seems to have to be declared to be the first or the biggest or the highest or whatever... a lot of extreme cultural insecurity reflected in these stories.

Well, statistically and socially speaking, both of you are wrong!

First, you need to define what you mean by �women-only� university? Then, we can discuss the matter further.

If, instead of saying 'several women only universities" I had said, "2 women only universities" or 'several women only colleges" or 'several universities with separate branches for men and women", would it have made the slightest difference to the substance of my post? If yes, could you explain it - you do seem to have a lot of time on your hands, so I'm sure you won't begrudge it.
