How much can one expect to earn in VND as a newly certified teacher with a B.A.? Do contracts state the salary in dollars? I ask this because I'm having a hard time finding out how much I can expect to make--everyone quotes their earnings in dollars, but with the dong falling to 17,000 against the dollar I am having a hard time trusting these estimates.

Second, are jobs available constantly (except Tet) or are there two or three months in particular that schools usually take on new teachers?

Thanks

$14 = crap school. Don't accept it.
$16 = Accept it, but keep looking to find a higher salary.
$18 = Comfortable salary, if the school is good stick around.
$20 = Good Salary , opportunity to save a decent amount and have a very good standard of living.
$22 = You're drinking from the topshelf.

All my contracts have always been in USD. However I have read contracts at VATC where the salary was quoted in VND (that was a couple of years back)

Most schools choose a specific day of the month to calculate your salary from USD to VND. Some choose a few days before payday while others choose the payday itself. I have never really worried as long as it is consistent and that schools dont simply choose a day that the USD dollar has lost value to calculate your pay.

Schools hire all year round unlike some other countries when you must wait till the beginning of the new school year to find work. But it is nice to begin the year (or course) with the students and to follow it all the way through.
