Hello!

Here is my question:

I never encounter - though I would be most interested to - any university ESL job openings in Russia.
Is it because I am unlucky to find any? Or I search badly?
Or there are really no openings for expat ESL teachers in Russia?

I have worked for a few years doing ESL tertiary jobs in the Middle East/Gulf, where there is plenty of opportunity for university ESL and where ESL expat jobs make up for the main ESL current in the academia.

Please, help with my enquiry:

1. There are no tertiary ESL jobs for expats?
or
2. I search badly? And if so, where runs the right path?

Would love to hear that 2 obtains and receive further guidance.

Greetings from the Gulf to the readers of my post,

balqis

It is number two, tinged by number one. The circumstances are the key factor. Universities are not particularly well funded and teachers' salaries are therefore very low and certainly not worth advertising to foreigners, who tend to have higher expectations (and have to pay rent). So, you would need to approach universities directly.

Expect very low pay, even in prestigious places like the Irkutsk linguistic institute (where they will want a relevant masters degree). Essentially, you're in a different league from the middle east, where the pay is extremely good, or indeed from elsewhere, where the pay is moderate.

Thank you coledavis for your answer.
I was glad to read that chances are tertiatry ESl jobs in Russia for expats are possible and that only my search is somehow flawed.

I know about money in Russia, i.e., that it is very low.
But I also know well what is behind the ESL money in the Gulf.

Glad to be of help. Two things: I would be interested to know what you meant by your comment about education in the middle east. Secondly, be prepared to have difficulties in your job applications if you are perceived to be a non-native speaker of English.

Thank you for your question.
However, I don't want to open Pandora's box while trying to answer it.
I also shoulnd't t bite the hand that feeds me so well.
So instead I have to bite my own whenever I feel like biting the hand that pays me.
That's why my own hand is now just a sore.
Still, Middle East can be fascinating. It is - so called by one theologian - fascinans tremens though.
Greetings from the ME,
