I'm a Brit about to fly off to the Americas. Can anyone recommend a good medical insurer or is it better to DIY when I get over there?

You'll have to be more specific. The Americas are a lot of different countries. Are you going to be employed? Are you going to school? Vacationing? There are different types of insurance for all of these situations.

I'm thinking of doing some travelling down Central / South America for at least a year, possibly a lot longer. I have the notion of starting of in Mexico and working my way south as and where I can find work teaching.

I use EXETER FRIENDLY a UK-based mutual socıety (ıe owned by members not sharehoılders lookıng for profırs) They have a websıte. I found them competent ın makıng payments. As wıth all medıcal cover there ıs the problem of not beıng coovered for 'pre-exıstıng condıtıons'. That can be a real drag. I do not know any way round ıt.

Thanks for the info scot47. Incidentally, your post seems to be littered with "&#305"s where there should be an "i"s. What's happening here? Confused
