Is it now possible to go to HK for a Z visa? Pre-olympics this seemed to be impossible. Who has done this recently?

thank you all in advance for your most important info on this topic.

The country where you may apply for your Z-visa is clearly printed on your letter of invitation. Presumably, if you can get the government bureau to print 'Hong Kong' your problem will be solved (I tried and failed, but your mileage may vary).

They are supposed to let you apply in Hong Kong if you are a Hong Kong resident (not the same as a 'citizen').

Only HK residents may apply for a mainland work visa in HK.

Does your co-worker have an HK card?

So far as I know, it is not possible. This may vary, but in my experience, the invitation letter which states where you can apply has no influence. I've had some say HK and got mine in Chicago, I've had some say Chicago and got it in NY.. I think it mostly depends on your nationality, so for example, if you are from the US, then you have to get your visa in the USA unless you have a visa status in the country where you are residing and/or have been to China before.

Last semester I used a visa service in the USA to process my visa despite the warnings from others here that I wouldnt have a exit stamp bla bla bla.. But it went through with no problem and the application for my residence sticker was a breeze here. I didnt have to elave the country and for three hundred and fifty dollars I saved myself the cost of the airplane ticket and dealing with some of the crafty visa companies here in China.

This is contrary to examples I am aware of.

Push the HK thing and you can get you letter to say you can go to HK. My school was saying they couldn't, I said I knew it was possible, they tried again...I went to HK. That was in late November 2008. It is possible.
