No doubt there.

Cant believe its worse than Banamex. You didnt have to buy life insurance at hsbc to open up an account did you? Nor did you have to fill in an application twice over because someone in the banking office made a mistake,( I had to do that on two separate applications), nor did you have to throw a hissy fit to close out a checking account when bank officials refused to close out your account, nor did you have to notify them of a change of address twiceover, now did you? Told you Banamex is the worst.

Banamex seemed to completely ignore my letter informing them of change of address and misspelt name on my debit card, even thought the letter was addressed to the person I was told it should be address to. Also I don't take kindly to waiting 1 hour 10 mins, just to cash a cheque.

No longer bank there!

In SLP if you go to Banamex in Lomas or Carranza the service is pretty good. If you go to one in downtown or one in not such a nice area - different bank. I find Bancomer ok for most things, consistently slow with few surprises.

It took me over three months and multiple phone calls to finally cancel a credit card that they:
First - refused to send me (you are suppose to pick up)
Second - promised (repeatedly) to send but never did
Third - promised to cancel it but never did

I was unable to pick it up because the branch I used was close to where I use to work, and I was unable to get down there before they closed.

Also, I had to go in about three different times to close my account, as it seemed that each time I went I lacked one piece of paper or another...

It took them forever to complete my change of address because...no idea.

Finally, the line-ups were always insane and the service extremely unfriendly.

If I ever run screaming back to the States, it will be over customer service or lack of it. I now expect lousy service and when I get pleasantly surprised, I tip, whether it is customary or not. For example, the guy who moved my stuff from Toluca to DF was great. Showed up on time Shocked got to my new apt before I did Shocked Shocked and this 60 some-odd year old guy carried my fridge up 3 flights of stairs on his back Shocked Shocked Shocked = 20% tip and would have bought him some beer if the tiendita had been open.

Other extreme, contracted the father of a friend of a friend. Constantly late or didnt show, when he did show he lack this-that-or-the other thing and yelled at whoever was helping him. Tried to get other half of the money by giving me some sob story about his mother being in the hospital but even his daughter told me not to give him any more money. After about 3 months or so I fired him. Still have half-finished closets.

Bad customer service and trying to rip me off because I am gringa/guera is why I have as little to do commercially here as I can get away with. It was one major reason I didnt have Internet service in my house for the longest time.

The university changed it's nomina from HSBC to Banamex a couple of years ago because HSBC had such terrible customer service. But Banamex has such terrible hours (at the branch in our town) that who knows how their service is, I've only ever been in there once.

BTW: Did you know there is a new law allowing the employee to choose any bank for their nomina? you know longer have to go with the companies choice of banks!

Overall, I would say that it is good. People are for the most part polite and friendly.
However,
one can expect no favors, ever, for any reason. they will follow their policy no matter how stupid it is. it's unbelievable.
you are always wrong in a restaurant. There was an insect in my soup. No doubt about it. It had legs and antennae. And an exoskeleton. They took it away and off my bill but they absolutely refused to admit it was an insect. Then they served my chili enogada cold and when I said why isn't it hot, they said it is served cold.. I said, why is it cold? They said that is how it is served... as in revenge is best served cold?

at another restaurant there were two menus posted outside, the hostess directed us to them both, we immediately flocked to the breakfast menu. Inside we ordered. My fiance a beer.. and when we realized we had been given lunch menus and that there was no way to get breakfast, he cancelled his beer.. but the server said that it had already been opened and he would have to pay for it (it wasn't even at the table yet). In the U.S. if it hasn't made it to your table, you don't pay for it.

once at a back I tried to get information on opening a bank account and I wanted to see the contract first, she refused to let me see the contract until I have already jumped through the hoops of giving her all my personal info needed to open said bank account and sign on the dotted line.
Worst place for customers. Best place to be in authority over customers. I was working at a hostel here in Mexico for a little while this past summer when an American woman called, she had the wrong number, she wanted to speak with someone in accounts receivables. I forget now the whole story but she got really rude with me really fast and I suddenly realized that customers in the US seem to have some kind of self-entitlment concept about treatment. I thought, more likely than not a Mexican customer would never treat me like that!

Okay DIXIE I will grant you that your banking experiences matched mine at the very least. So switch to ScotiaBank. They're much more helpful. And yes, I had the same problem with not having matching documentation to open a clabe account when I already had a checking account. I went back 5 times to get it resolved and they wouldn't because the address did not match when I had notified them in person of my change in address 4 months prior.
