I am considering an offer for a teaching job at a college in Saudi. Probably the information is on this board somewhere, but...I would appreciate any comments you might have:
As a woman, what are the dress codes for being in public and teaching?
Are there any western-type hotels where I could suntan or use a fitness centre etc?
What are the pros and cons of living in Saudi?
I would get a living allowance of 18,000 SR per year. What would that get me?
What should I bring with me from Canada that I can't get in Saudi?
Are there any English book stores? English TV stations?
What should I be careful of in terms of a contract?
Thanks for your time.

In public, an abaya (long black cloak) and perhaps a head scarf too. At work, depends on the employer, but most places want female teachers to wear long skirts (not trousers) and at least elbow length blouses.

You don't tell us which city you are considering going to, but even so, women are not able to use the facilities in most hotels. There are plenty of women's gyms though.

Too complex a question to give a simple answer. Do a search on this page for some previous discussions.

Possibly a hovel by the side of the local rubbish tip. Seriously, most decent employers pay at least twice that. Then again, since single woman are not usually allowed to live outside their employer provided housing, it's probably a moot point.

Too general a question - please be more specific.

Yes and yes.

Again, the question is too general. Do a search for previous discussions on this theme, and come back to us if you have more specific questions.
