I have recently been offered a job in BA. The salary is $2000USD. I understand it may be a decent salary for a single person, but I have a wife and a small child. I lived in BA for five months in 2004, so I know the city fairly well; however, I've not been there since.
Some questions:
* Is the above salary enough to support a family in BA?
* My wife is Russian. She speaks English well, but no Spanish (yet). Does anyone have an idea what kind of work might be found there for her (probably part-time)? Perhaps someone else had a similar situation?
* The job is related to teaching, but is not a teaching position. However, I am an IELTS examiner, and would want to continue this. Does anyone know if there are many IELTS examining opportunities down there?
* I would much prefer to buy a flat straight away upon moving there. Does anyone have insight into the real estate market? I understand prices would vary greatly depending on region, but could a person get something decent for, say, $100K (USD)?
* While I was there in 2004, I did quite a bit of private teaching/tutoring. I can't really remember what I was getting paid then, but what is the average price per hour for private teaching now?
* I have a one year-old son. Anyone living in BA have small children? What is the daycare situation like for you (costs, etc)?

I have many more questions I'd like answered before seriously considering up and moving my family from Russia to Argentina. My hiring contact would like me to make a decision by July, so I have some time to throughly research the situation.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

go for it....never look back (as marathoners sa).

if the $2000 is for real, you'll be OK. your wife can cook all the meals and you can take P&J sandwiches to work. you'll save a lot eating in.

don't buy a flat right out. scout out the areas and neighborhoods first that will make it a fast commute to your work.

i have a friend in B.A. right now that i could put you in touch with if you PM me.

think about the positive benefits of being in the sun and warmer climate. your child will enjoy it a lot more and you don't have to put boots and mittens on 5 X a day anymore Smile
