New Poster here. I have also posted this on Expats.cz but, unfortunately, I have gotten no replies yet.

My wife and I will be arriving from the States to get into the ESL field. We plan on getting z. lists and starting the visa proccess. Of course, there are several questions that I hope the kind souls on this forum could help me with...

1. I have been doing as much reading and studying as I can; but, I was wondering at what point do you need to go to the FP - as soon as you arrive or once you have some visa type paperwork to show them? I know that tourists don't need to register with the FP as I have been to CR many times as a "tourist," but this time I plan to stay a while longer and I want to make sure everything I do is legit and in the right order.

2. Since CR entered Schengen, is it still possible for Americans to get the visa proccess handled in Dresden, Vienna, or Bratislava or should I plan on returning back to the states after getting my lease, z. list, and other neccessary documents in CR? I have heard conflicting info on this topic.

3. If I can get visas in Europe, I plan to get the short term C visa while the long term visa is being put together. From what I understand, I need proof that I will be leaving CR i.e. return air ticket and that the short term visa will only be good until the date on the return ticket. Does anyone know a good way around this? (My ticket is set to return 90 days after I arrive.)

4. I know you need a z. list to get the visa and you can't get the visa w/o a z. list or letter from the z. urad. Can I get my z. list completed and issued with a C visa or should I wait for the D?

5. I am not yet sure where in CR I will finally settle. From what I understand, a z.list is only good for the municipality in which it was issued. If I move to a different area of CR will I have to get a new z. list and will I have to apply for a new visa since my living quarters and z.list have changed?

Any advice from someone who has RECENTLY gone through a situation like this would be greatly appreciated!

1. I believe you do need to register with the FP once you arrive if you are staying in a private residence for more than 30 days. They will want to know where you are staying, and for how long. You were 'registered' before while staying in a hotel, and thus you didn't need to go to the FP.

Make sure both of you have sufficient cash to cover the cost of getting a Zlist.

You will need this money to

1. Cover the cost of insurance during the validity period

2. Probably hire someone to help you with the paperwork of it. You can try on your own, but if you don't speak Czech you will probably run into problems

3. Register with the course 5,000 CZK

4. Any a whole host of other things.

I just renewed my Zlist and Visa last week. When you go to the Fpolice, make sure the get there at around 3.00 AM or so and be prepared to stand in a line for about 12 hours. It's getting really, really crazy there these days.

The foreign police has actually gotten a bit easy these days, but the rest of the process can be stressful.

Hi,

I am new here too. I am India national currently living in the US, and because my US visa is close to being expired and can't be extended, I need to move somewhere else. I do not want to go back to India, so I am thinking about Europe, and I have heard quite a lot about Czech; therefore, I am doing my research on this. And now I have some questions that I found this thread here.

You and Chris are using quite a few accronyms. What do they mean? FP, Zlist, z.list, Fpolice?

In regards to the type of visa I need, I found this site (Schengen Visa Categories http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/schengen_visa_categories.htm ) which talks about the visa categories. It looks to me like I need Schengen visa category D to be able to work in Czech, no? You talk about category C visa. Am I missing anything? Can you legally work on the C visa?

Also, I am lost with the z. list you are talking about. The site I referenced provides a checklist of what is needed for the Schengen visa, and they list the following:

- Completed Schengen visa form
- Passport photo
- Copy of all used pages in your passport
- Written invitation from a reference person in the country to which you travel
- If the reference persion is your relative, then you need some official documentation proving that
- Documentation of sufficient funds for the stay or a guarantee declaration issued by the reference person
- Schengen visa fee
- Proof of valid travel and medical insurance
(source: http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/schengen_visa_application.htm)

They say nothing about a "z. list". Sorry, if my questions sound low, but I have no idea about these things. Any explanation appreciated. Thanks.

Z list is a license to do business as an individual. If you work for a proper language school, you don't need one.

Would you mind telling me a little bit more about your experience with czechvisas.com?

Did you go through the process with them from your home country or from the Czech Republic? Did you need to have a job there before you started the process?

Also, once you have a working visa, is it true that you can only travel to Switzerland and the UK?
