Yeah, I know I should have gotten a job lined up first, but things didn't work out that way and I'm in China now. I'd like to land a teaching job that will enable me to get a Z visa. I'm not picky and I don't mind making a run to HK, if necessary, to get my visa changed. Just want to find something fast that will cover my living expenses and allow me to stay in Shanghai. I have a degree from an American university, but no teaching certificate. I'm also fluent in Mandarin, if that helps at all.
So what are my chances of landing a job here and what is the best way to go about it??? Should I just apply to job postings online? What are some good websites with job postings besides this one? Should I go to english schools here in town and try to talk to someone in person? Should I sign up with a recruiter?
Any helpful advice is appreciated! |

Yeah Shanghai is dope. Better than Houston, I'll tell you that, though the weather is similar.
The only thing is, I gotta have something lined up for when I run outta funds. The drink prices at the clubs out here ain't cheap. |

As you seem to have enough cash to throw it away at drinking still, go back to the local club and talk some mandarin with the chinese, some english with the white-faced population. Hopefully you can ask them where there might be work for you.
If not, walking around Shanghai asking people (should be really easy for a Mandarin speaker like you), and go into schools with your resume/cv/degree and introduce yourself as the god-sent teacher. Go print out a bunch of copies of the degree/cvs and also leave your phone number at the school/someone working at the school, at least then you 'expose' yourself, dont think the drinking will help that much, tbh. |

Relax, buddy. I was just kidding about the drinks thing, no need to get too worked up by it. As you can see, the first person who replied gave a really useless answer. It pissed me off a little, and in the heat of the moment, I came up with that comment (which admittedly was a little snarky).
I detect more than a little hostility directed towards me from your reply. I'm not quite sure why you are so anti-drinking. If you were a Christian fundamentalist from America or Carrie Nation I could understand, but I'm assuming you are from Europe where the attitude towards drinking is a lot more relaxed? Also, I never said anything to suggest I was a "god-sent teacher" so not sure where you got that from.
Anyways, just wanted to clear the air and say no hard feelings guy. I'm just here to get information.
