Hi there,
I'm teaching in Shandong at the moment but want to move down south in a few months or maybe even sooner. The problem is that, the only reason I wasnt totally screwed over when I arrived here is because I'm good friends with the schools top teacher, (though, of course, I was still messed around with).
I have a RELSA (Irish) qualification and I'm 20 but I've no degree and am nervous about schools taking advantage of this. Any advice on how to find a job and be reasonably confident about not being taken for a ride.
Thanks in advance, Niamh |

How exactly were you messed with??? I don't think there is an answer to this ? but maybe somebody can help. I had to work illegally before (not in China) and I found the only thing to do was go on gut feelings. Do I trust these people??? Are they playing games??? So far here I dont think they are out to steal your pay---at least nobody I have met. I have been treated well so far. Be careful and good luck. |

Well, I am in a similar position as you are. I am a 19 year old from Canada. What I can suggest, though I will say now I have not gone to my job yet, so I may still get screwed over. The first thing I would say is to speak with present and past teachers, I don't think to many of them would lead you to a school to get screwed over. Ask about the schools on here, there are some really well travelled people to help you out here. Gerard made a good point about following your gut, unless you always seem to get yourself in sh*@ then do what seems right. If you do seem to land knee deep in sh*! a lot, then reverse what you might normally do. Thats all I can say now,
good luck to you (and me, and everyone else in China)
