I have sent out quite a few applications to potential employers in KSA. A couple have responded but most haven't acknowledged at all. Is this typical? Should I interpret this as lack of interest or might they later come back with an offer? One expressed interest saying that they would be back soon with a salary recommendation. That was over a week ago. No word yet. What should I do? Would appreciate feedback from experienced teachers.

It's not the norm in Saudi Arabia to acknowledge the receipt of applications. However, you sometimes get an Auto-message response (e.g., Bell & Taibah Uni) stating the receipt of your application and thanking you for your interest and blah blah blah.

Now, what you could do if your are keen on a particular place and you know for sure they are recruiting is that you could, for example, sent a follow-up email, which is absolutely an appropriate step in job-seeking cases.
