I notice that some companies, whilst they give on montghs dismissal motice to the employee, the employee usually has to give 3 or 4 months notice to the employer (because it takes possibly that many moths to find a replacement).
Is this legal ? |

In the first year of a limited contract, it is technically legal.
Companies can ask for that amount of time before you resign as long as it's reasonable.
4 months is a bit on the unreasonable side I feel... I've seen many places asking 2-3 months usually. |

My understanding is that case law says 2-4 weeks is reasonable. Anything beyond that is not.
But hey, ask a lawyer in Japan or over on BD, not here. |

| thanks for the link fluffyhamster, I didn' t know this was being discussed elsewhere. After all, the name of the thread of th elink you gave is "Did I do anything wrong" which isn't exactly very informative |

Yeah, the other thread wasn't originally so much about notice required specifically (although that was perhaps the major sticking point), but about how generally inquisitive one could afford to be (e.g. asking for emails of previous teachers etc) whilst pondering whether to accept a job offer and sign a contract. Anyway, I'm glad to hear it was of some interest to you, Starteacher! |
