1) I've been to Israel and have got a stamp on the passport. Do the Moroccans care (like many other Arabian countries do) when it comes to granting a visa?
2) How's the ALC? Do they help with housing and airfare? |

Morocco has its own population of Jews who visit Israel and there are Israeli Jews who visit Morocco, so the stamp should not be a problem.
About the ALC: there are 10 ALCs in the country and they differ in terms of what they offer visiting teachers. You should write to the one you're interested in. Their emails are at http://aca.org.ma

Thank you both!
The school is the Mohammedia branch.
They offer 145 DH an hour /15 to 20 hours a week on contract, meaning about 8000 dh a month take home; the school assist the teachers to find the apartment (housing allowance: 1000 dh a month); 2000 dh settling allowance and the school helps with the flight fare (depending on the fare).
Does this sound reasonable, IYO? |

| 8000 dh a month with a housing allowance of 1000 is not a lot of money - unless apartments in Mohammedia are dirt cheap or you're planning on sharing, I wouldn't accept it. |

| 6 years ago now, I and another regular poster were employed in Casablanca, just down the road from Mohamedia, on 18,000 dhm plus, including housing allowance. It was okay, allowed for a reasonable life. I think anything less than 12,000 isn't going to be enough for the things most people like to do...Morocco isn't that cheap (not like parts of Asia etc) |

That will be me then.
1. You speak for yourself, pal. I've not set foot there since and, despite my relocating soon to nearby Andalusia, never plan to do so. I spent every penny of that monthly Dh18000 just to stay sane and also eat food which the WHO might just recognise as an acceptable diet*. And in five years, not one person on this discussion board has put forward the inklings of a viable case as to why Morocco is worth bothering with.
2. As I write, 1 Euro is Dh11.16. Dh10000 is 893 Euros.

Casablanca is more expensive than Chicago, Ottawa, Wellington, Washington DC, Seattle and Detroit. Imagine a job in Washington DC offering 893 Euros. I can�t.
My Dh18000 of 2004 is 1608 Euros as of today. That was a horrific amount of cash to blow every month on a nondescript lifestyle. I don�t spend that now in Germany.

Moroccan food couldn�t be more opposed to the above if it tried. Yes, the home-cooked stuff is good, but the number of posters eating that can be counted on the thumbs of one foot. Ironically, me and TwinCentre did have Moroccan friends and even ate their proper food. But it�s very labour intensive and takes an army of women in the kitchen to produce. Going into restaurants, forget all that. You�ll be in gastro WHO-defying hell |

| I worked at ALC Rabat a few years ago. I made 7000 dh per month I think (it definately wasn't 17000). It was enough to survive and travel a bit. ALC is reputable but each branch is different. |
