I am a mother of a 9mth old son and was just wondering what the options for childcare were like?? I'm looking at applying for JET 2010 - the Okinawa region
I lived in Japan 05/06 and worked for AEON in Osaka
Any advice about the cost and quality of childcare would be greatly appreciated |

There's a forum on daycare at this site (which also has tons of other info you might be interested in).

I am a JET (without kids I'm afraid) in Okinawa.
That said, its nearly impossible to get a requested placement in JET unless you can prove a connection to the islands (either family or sister city/state -almost all the Hawaiians get placed here for that reason).
There are english language preschools and daycare available depending on where you are I think. Some of my JTEs have used them for their own kids. There are also private church affiliated schools. Most of these would be on Okinawa honto near the bases where the christian/intermarriage/American population is largest. I don't have kids so can't give opinions on cost, quality etc... |

I have alot of JET friends (ex and current) who have all gotten their placement requests , so I'm not worried about that one. I also have alot of Japanese friends who live in the islands, hence the reason for choosing Okinawa
Plus the beaches and surf/dive opps!! |
