To be honest, it sounds like you'd be better off going to Korea. It's way easier to get started, and you don't need nearly as much initial cash. There's always plenty of work available, and the average benefit package is better than what you're likely to get in Taiwan.
I'm in my second year here in Korea, and am thinking about relocating to either Taiwan or Japan. I had a great experience working in a small public school here. When I left for Asia I had almost no money, but now I have a good amount of savings and a year of experience. |

Hi OP,
I have seen some ads from the "HESS" school that offer helping you to find a place to live(fronting the money for the first month's rent) and advancing some salary as well to get you started. I don't know if that offer is still going on but you could write to HESS and find out. That way you could sign a contract before you get here and have a job waiting for you, and not have to use your credit card too much.
Personally, I think if you are doing it for a great traveling experience, you would have a lot more fun in southeast Asia. As far as economy, I think Singapore would be in the best condition for this year.
hope that helps |

I have taught in Taiwan and it was OK but I wouldn't recommend it
For the money I would suggest Sth Korea because of the potential for private students. The only thing is the difficulty with getting the work visa
The cost of living is not too high and many jobs include housing
Japan is my favourite place of them all - I would strongly recommend going there |
