Korean working visas are a bloody mess from hell now. A few years ago it wasn't a problem to arrive in Korea jobless and just something, do a quick visa run to Japan, and start working. Now, they want you to get background checks in your home country, have an interview at a Korean embassy/consulate in your home country and just through a bunch of other hoops... just to work in a country that's paying about 60% of the wage (but you get free housing!) of Japan. I left Korea before the visa situation changed, but from what I've read it seems it's very difficult to arrive in K-land jobless and visaless.

Get a working holiday visa for Japan, reserve a room at a guesthouse in Tokyo or Osaka, and come here looking for a job. You'll get something at the least. Read what Glenski says, as he's usually quite accurate.

I arrived here on a 90 day tourist visa, got the job, and had to wait a week for my mum to send my degree out before they could process the visa. Once I took in the docs they started the process, they said it could take as little as 4 weeks, most likely 6, or at most 2 months for the work visa.
Being unemployed for two months in Tokyo is fine by me, apart from living like a pauper.

You mentioned going to Sth Korea. I have lived and worked in both countries
I LOVE Japan and everything about being there but honestly considering your
qualifications/experience, you might be better in Sth Korea
There are alot more opportunities - especially picking up private lessons
Koreans pay the highest money out of both nationalities
Cost of living in Korea is generally lower than in Japan and alot of teaching jobs there include housing
You should go to Japan first and then Sth Korea if things don't work out
The Korean website - worknplay is a good one to get you started
In Korea - be careful of hagwon and recruiters. Public school jobs are better if you don't mind teaching kids. Research,research,research

Actually, I'd suggest the opposite. Go to Korea first then Japan if it doesn't work out. You need to apply for your visa from your home country to work in Korea, but I don't think that's necessary for Japan. If you try out Japan first and it doesn't work out, you'll have to fly back home before making a go of it in Korea. If you come to Korea and find out the job you have is a bust, you can make your way to Japan after that.
