|
|
Hi All,
So it seems that however ADEC is running things in the UAE, they have decided to take over the approval aspect of hiring. NordAnglia, Gems, etc., all interview people, but applications go through ADEC for the final review process.
As usual, there's no transparency here; I had a great interview a few weeks ago, and there were concrete indications that I would be offered the position, but I was told a week later that I was being rejected. I have a MA in Education and several years experience. I'm wondering if ADEC is my stumbling block - which, of course, hurts my chances when applying to other schools in the area.
Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts? |

ADEC always has to approve employees as suitable just as there would be a body in your home country to approve teachers. It's not a transparency issue; there must be something else. Have you been to Israel and have a stamp in your Passport? I doubt ADEC is guilty of blacklisting. |

I would imagine that with lots of people applying for jobs from western countries, due to the economic crisis, the competition is steep. You indicate that you have several years of experience. How much of your experience has been in the Middle East? It's definitely a factor. |

A friend of mine with a master's and 9 years experience got a very concrete offer from a PPP provider over the summer. This person had all the details of the salary, compensation package, dates, etc. just didn't have a contract.
A month later he called and everyone was pussyfooting around and knew nothing about the offer. This might have been the same stumbling block.
Shame. Their reputation is just plummeting. |

Well well... providers have been interviewing for some time now, most of them are at this very moment NA, SSAT and the most famous of the all CfBT. Some tell you that you passed the interview but dont offer a contract. The reson they say is that they are waiting for ADEC to hand out more schools.
Providers have the resources and the means to issue contracts but they don't WHY? If their is someone they like and is worth it, whats holding them back.
If they hang around too long teachers cant hand in their notices and so cant leave their current posts for Sept.
Just does not make any sense. No good blaming ADEC, someone should tell them how it works, you dont just pick teachers of trees like flowers their are rules and regulations that we are all tided down to and need to follow. |

Carlen, no teacher was ever "black listed". There was a government ban in place for 6 months following the completion of a contract. That ban has now been lifted. |

The issue of perspective employees receiving confirmation on offers, getting a contract and being able to submit notices to leave current posts has been an ongoing issue in the Middle East. Government agencies such as the ADEC and the Ministry of Education are to blame. It's the way they do business; their rules and regulations are written and read from right to left.
One of the problems is that the providers don't have the resources and the means to issue contracts until they receive confirmation from the governing agencies on the number of schools and funding that will be allocated to each provider. If the providers issued contracts before recieving confirmation, then they would be obligated to agreements with teachers that they may not be able to fulfill. |

This is the way things are done in the Gulf AP4058. Is it logical? Is it cost effective? Does it ensure the right people are chosen for the right job? NO!
Is it frustrating and aggravating? YES!
All I can advise is, get used to it. This is what happens in 99.9999% of all organizations here. If you find it aggravating and frustrating now - imagine "living the dream" in real life. It doesn't get easier on the ground unless you can adapt to it. |

Carlen, for what reason would someone be blacklisted by the ADEC? My responses to the OP were based on the belief that s/he hadn't worked in the ME before. My post about the 6-month ban was to you, though. |

robbievienna, have you worked in the UAE before and were you applying from within the Abu Dhabi emirate? I don't think there's a need for paranoia about ADEC. |
