I'll keep this simple.. In what countries is it possible for a British citizen to legally teach without a degree? I have 4 years experience so finding a job shouldn't be too much of a problem but as I'm finding out, most countries require AT LEAST a 2 year degree to get a work permit. I have no choice but to keep my options completely open but I would prefer to be in Asia if possible.

In Japan,if you can prove 3 or more years of teaching experience, you can get a work visa (only the Specialist in Humanities/International Relations work visa, not the Instructor visa). That means you cannot work in a public school, but are limited to places like conversation schools and business English agencies.

Thank you again Naturegirl!

I did try searching on google, several times. But the same as with those 2 links mentioned they are unfortunately all full of chitchat and no specific answers.

China is definitely a possibility, I'm also looking into Indonesia but while a degree is not needed they do seem to require a tesl... But how about the rest of South East Asia? Are there any countries there that do not require a degree or teaching certificate? Also what are the general wages like for esl teachers in these countries?

China and Indonesia are the two I know. Vietnam might be a possibility. Pay is probaly arond 500 to 1000 in these two countries. VN pays the highest.

with a tefl certification, Indonesia is a very good option. Good pay, and low cost of living. You can save a lot, and still live like a king.

Mexico is also good... but expensive to live there and low pay.

In thailand, you can work illegally.. there are many ways around the laws- although I hear they have changed the laws now and it's not so easy now. (check www.ajarn.com)

I have personally worked in all three of these countries....

So, what exactly is a "balchelor"?

Question for Spiffy: what is keeping you from getting your degree?
