I've only really posted on one topic which is kinda unfortunate.
Also, I thought it might be nice to put useful info up that people can use.
So... favorite restaurants ) I'll start.
Pan Asian -- Mirage
American -- Chili's
Sushi -- Sushi Yoshi
Pizza -- Sbarro's
Hibachi -- Furrusoto
Thai -- Mondo
Anybody care to share? |

I am in Jeddah, but how about the "Fine Dining" category?
Perhaps I should start the same thread for Jeddah! |

I think both Mondo and Mirage could qualify as fine dining. Both have upscale dining rooms and unique and tasteful menus. |

I am a fan of Shawaya House followed by a large pomegranate juice at 50 fruits. |

Don't forget TGI Fridays and Applebees. At least Applebees has a bar (with non-alcoholic beverages, of course). |

Assaraya (Turkish) - lentil soup and mixed grill =
GAD (Egyptian) - good fish, hot bread, etc. There's one down south close to Bathaa that's really good.
Coffee Time for coffee shakes - plush and interesting, no music or smoking as it's the bearded ones' hangout .
That Indian jewel of a restaurant behind a hotel off Olaya St - I forget its name. Is it still there?
Fuddruckers - for quantity!
Dabab (sp.?) St is good for grills, schwarmas and fresh juice. Damn I miss those garlicky schwarmas... |

You know, in a strip mall behind the Raytheon Compound (I don't think that it's any big secret as it's got half the Saudi National Guard guarding it!), which is attached to the Arabian Homes Compound, there's this American convert who runs (at least he did 5 years ago) this splendid Italian joint that has a Wood-fired oven.
Man, that stuff was so good that I bought up about five orders of his Lasanga to take up to the Al-Gaim Compound in Taif so I wouldn't have to choke down their crap or socialize with the losers that were on staff with me...

For Turkish, definitely try Alrayan Restaurant
Here's a good web sit for recommendations, not only for restaurants:

Oh, I misread the title of the thread! My favorite restaurant in RIYADH used to be a Lebanese joint known as the "Honeycomb", but it got all blowed up when the SANG compound next to it got car-bombed. John, do you remember that one?
After that, the missus and I used to go quite frequently to the "Olympic 88" (not defunct) a Korean eatery near Euromarche.
Actually, one of the more pleasant things that we used to do is join up with about 12-15 other couples and once or twice a month go eat at a new "find".
That was nice.

Dunno about Riyadh but I think the ASHWAG in Jeddah is the best Turkish restaurant on Planet Terra. |

Ahwag is good, but I wouldn't really trust their food in terms of hygeine or health. Khayal is a relatively new Turkish restaurant, and is very very good. It is a proper sit-down restaurant that is clean and nicely decorated, but still cheap. A 3- or 4-course meal would run you no more than SR. 50-70. |

For those of you who find themselves in Taif, Ahlan wa Salan (sic) is a fantastic eatery...Lebanese, of course!
P.s. I think that we need a "Yummy" emoticon for threads like this!

Applebees on Tahliyyah St. is my favorite ... the beef ribs are tremendous! It's funny because I HATE Applebees in the States.
For Pizza, it doesn't get any better than Pizza Company on King Abdullah. |
