That's tough, and I think, your salary is not in the top league. In kindies they pay or used to pay at least 60% more for that much work!
Ask how large your classes are! If it is a number lower then 60 you can regard yourself as 'lucky'! |

Yeah, as the others here have already pointed out, it aint such an impressive deal. I agree with the Yank, try for 6k RMB at least, if those 20hours are in-class hours, youll spend at least 24-25 real hours in the school itself..maybe more. |

You had better check how many different courses you will teach. For the local teachers, they teach 12 hr/wk, but just one course, so they only prepare 4-5 lessons/wk. If you teach 3 different courses, then you will spend a lot of time on preparing lessons. remember, there are normally around 50 students in each class. |

What does the contract state about HOLIDAYS? How many months do you get paid a year? Or are you going to have to run summer camp at the same salary?
Many public employrs only remunerate you for ten months out of twelve. |

I'm not sure what the uproar seems to be about being paid for 10 months out of 12 ...
Why should an employer pay you for (usually) the summer 2 month holiday when you don't even work there anymore ?
Some may pay you for the summer if you are returning for the next school year.
But why should you be paid for no work ? |

Many teachers in other countries get paid vacations, so why not in China? In Peru, we gte 2 months paid vacations, plus extra month's salary in May, July and Dec. But the organisation is bad, it's not worth it. China will be a dream compared to here. |

Only 25 hours a week? Sounds like english teachers in China get good enough pay and alot of time off? I would like that. |

I am contracted at 16 classes per week.
But I have an actual 10 forty minute classes per week plus one English corner per week.
The Chinese teachers at my public high school also teach 10 classes per week. |

Good Dog!
I justtake pay for 12 months if and when I can get it, and I take pay for ten months if I can't get paid in the other two months.
Currently I am being paid for twelve months, 3 whole monhts of which are holiday months.
I don't think anything is wrong with this deal. |

Hey, I'm in a smaller town in Jiangsu Province and have been teaching here about six months. I'm teaching 16 classes (40 mins/55 kids) plus an additional two periods a week for an English Club.
I get paid for summer vacation (six weeks), all Chinese holidays (lots of them!) and additional days off each month when my kids take their monthly exams, and the typical contract perks like airfare reimbursement, health insurance reimbursement, and I have an on-campus nice(!) two bedroom apartment and the school pays for all utilities/internet/propane/everything except food and traveling.
My monthly salary is 5,000rmb which I thought was low and I hit them up for more initially (I have a Master's in Education and TESL cert but no in-class teaching experience) but they wouldn't budge. Turns out 5,000 is more than enough in this area and I'm now negotiating twice that amount to work with them for their two week Summer Camp coming up...
Keep in mind I'm teaching Grade 1 (10th grade in USA) high school kids the SAME lesson 16 times a week, and there is a definite 'dancing bear' aspect to my job, but overall for my first year traveling and teaching English around the globe, I'm living La Vida Loca baby!
Good luck with your search!! |
