I have recently been thinking about teaching English in a foreign country. I was leaning towards Indonesia or possibly Central America. I had plans to complete my TEFL certification during the summer, but my friend who just started teaching in Korea told me I may not even have to do that to get a job teaching English in some countries. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to do this. I am not really worried about a top-paying job, just something that pays me enough to get by and experience a different part of the world for awhile.

Thanks and any information at all would be helpful.

Indonesia is a great place to get a TEFL job without a degree or TEFL cert. Obviously, you won't get the top paying jobs, but I believe you will find one.

My advice?? Send a CV and a nice letter to any of the schools advertising on here that you would like to work at EVEN if the add says you DO need a degree. Some say that, but its just a preference. If they like you on paper and are willing to hire you without a degree/tefl cert, then they will set up a phone interview. If they still like you and offer you a job, come back to dave's esl and see what you can find out about that school. Also, it might help to attach a picture with your CV. Idea

I agree with MrMr. Unlike S. Korea, where the rules are fairly firm about having a bachelor's, Indonesia has lots of latitude (illegally, of course).

Oops, sorry. CV is a resume format (so to say). Google CV resume or teacher CV and format your resume like that...
