Dear Kipling,
Whoa, you mean NCTBA is really Jeff Bridges? Love that movie, man.

To my beloved posters:
I am planning to write a novel book about the Magic Kingdom, and my proposed title is: "The Magic Kingdom between Reality and Fiction"
And of course I need help from our beloved posters, especially Uncle Scott and John, to contribute to this reality/fiction book by writing a chapter reflecting their experiences (including horror stories as well! ).
I will title my chapter: The Magic Kingdom between backwardness and advanceness
So, I wonder if any poster is interested to contribute to this book, if yes, what will be your proposed title, and why?
Please note that due to the Equal Opportunity law in the Magic Kingdom, female posters are strongly encouraged to contribute to this book. |

Dear Kipling.
Regarding NCTBA (aka "The Dude")
"Sometimes there's a man, who, well, he's the man for his time 'n place."
So speaks "The Stranger" (and I'm not talkin' Camus here.)
Presuming "a duff movie" does not refer to Hilary Duff but is British slang for "bad", well there IS this:
" SURF'S UP
A surfing penguin currently riding the wave of success enters his first professional competition in this computer-animated family-oriented comedy from directors Chris Buck and Ash Brannon. Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf) may be a relative amateur when it comes to hanging ten, but he's sure he has what it takes to surf his way to superstardom. With a little help from his cantankerous King Penguin mentor, ex-surfing legend Big Z (Jeff Bridges), and a little encouragement from star Pen Gu Island lifeguard Lani (Zooey Deschanel), there may be hope for this tuxedo-clad wave twister after all."
Actually, I've never seen it, so who knows - it might be boffo.
Regards,
John |

Yes, the incubation period for Larchmont is roughly (and I do mean quite generally) 12 months and 12 days.
Rigel, did you fax them your stuff yet so they can fax it to the original faxer, then get it faxed back to them? Hey, these are the fax. |

Dear Sheikh,
"We are not ''your'' posters. We are Dave's posters. You are one of them."
Slight quibble - shouldn't that have been this:
"We are not ''your'' posters. We are Dave's posters. You are one of us."
Or did your mind quail at the prospect of being incorporated along with 007?
Regards,
John |

Correct, as always. But ''quail''? For me, ''quail'' is a bird. It flies low. Texan golfers talk about hitting it ''quail high'' to keep it out of the wind |

| Quail is a good warbling sort of quivering image, cowardly and squeamish all at once, and in Texas, it was wannabe Vice-Prez Dan Quail who had the hole-in-one on a low, driving shot. |

Dear Sheikh,
quail (v.)
"to lose heart, to shrink," c.1440, of unknown origin, perhaps from M.Du. quelen "to suffer, be ill," from P.Gmc. *kwel- "to die" (see quell). Or from obsolete quail "to curdle" (1398), from O.Fr. coailler, from L. coagulare (see coagulate). Sense of "cower" is attested from 1555. Common 1520-1650, then rare until 19c.; apparently revived by Scott."
Apparently Sir Walter Scott gave quail artificial respiration - which conjures up an interesting mental picture.
But be not shamed - even brave men (and such a one I'm sure you are) would quail at such a prospect.
Regards,
John |

Correct again, Mr. S. Living with you must make your wife ''quail''. |

Dear Sheik,
To be honest, living with me would probably make even Boudica quail; however, to extend the avian metaphor, my wife is a rara avis; I'm never henpecked.

John |

Hey 007,
Before you write that book, you might want to find out whether "advanceness" is an actual word. Perhaps a sub-editor could help you. |
