| I think that making a decision based on secondhand knowledge is about as reliable as making a decision by spinning a globe and sticking your finger on it. Which is to say unreliable, but not necessarily hopeless. To be 100% honest, I had never even heard of Torino when I was offered the job there on Thursday. I told the school I would need a day to think things over, did a super-quick internet search, accepted the job that afternoon and moved on Saturday. Once you hit about 300,000 people in a city, there are going to be good parties and a decent amount of cultural stuff (though you might have to seek it out). With regards to Europe, it's not a big deal if things don't work out, as long as you've got some money saved up. My flight from Barcelona to Turin was fifteen euros. If I had hated Turin I could have gone somewhere else. Obviously there are hotel and food expenses while you're figuring things out, but I wouldn't recommend leaving home without enough money to tide you over for a few months if you don't find good work in a fitting city right away. |
